COVID-19 Test Kit Deliveries by Drone at SUNY Upstate University Hospital in Syracuse

The COVID Humanitarian UAS Response Partnership (CHURP) demonstrates the power of drones for improving medical transport while operating safely over cities

DETROIT, MI, USA, January 19, 2021 /EINPresswire.com/ — Airspace Link, Inc., the leading North American provider of solutions designed to help state and local government agencies better plan for and manage the safe integration of drones into their communities, worked with the city of Syracuse in New York to integrate and transform key data into meaningful ground risk insights relevant to drone operations. Airspace Link’s AirHub platform provides the geospatial services and digital infrastructure necessary to support the planning of safe and FAA-compliant drone operations. The solution is the first of its kind to bring together key data from the FAA and state and local governments to help unlock new advanced, autonomous drone solutions for public safety and health care services. The AirHub™ platform also provides important insights about the airspace allowing the City to create local advisories, such as the one used last week to alert drone operators to stay clear of the operation at State University of New York (SUNY) Upstate University Medical Hospital.

The deliveries that were piloted last week by DroneUp, a leading drone services provider, proved the power of using new drone technologies to move COVID-19 test kits from the hospital to a biotech building. The drone flight distance was about a half mile from the drone launch site at the hospital’s helipad to the biotech building. The tests showed that the drone could safely reach the site in as little as three minutes and that the total round-trip time including package drop-off was no more than eight minutes. Reducing the time to transport test kits between facilities, will help to speed up the time to get results back to patients.

Lisa Peterson, Vice President of Business Development for Airspace Link, was on-site for the demonstrations and is also part of the COVID Humanitarian UAS Response Partnership team, (CHURP). “SUNY Upstate University Medical Hospital is at the tip of the spear in terms of showing the benefits of these new drone technologies for improving medical treatment for the citizens of Syracuse as well as the broader health care industry as a whole,” Peterson said. “This was also important since the drone flew in the middle of the city during the day over people, requiring a special approval from the FAA. I believe this went a long way to help citizens of Syracuse realize how drones can be safely integrated into their community.”

Airspace Link is a partner of Esri, a leading geospatial information services platform used by the city of Syracuse for managing key data. This made it easy for Airspace Link to surface the ground risks associated with this operation, so pilots could understand what hazards to avoid. AirHub™ for Government integrates with Esri’s ArcGIS platform.

During the operation, the SUNY Upstate University Medical campus police monitored the operation using drones. As an FAA-approved solution provider for Low Altitude Authorization and Notification Capabilities (LAANC), Airspace Link supported this operation by enabling the pilots to obtain the necessary authorizations to fly in controlled airspace. Airspace Link’s AirHub for Pilots solution provides LAANC across 700 airports in the U.S. This is also a key technology enabler for UAS traffic management systems.

“We are looking forward to our continued work with the city of Syracuse to help them put in the proper foundation to support the fast adoption of drone technologies by businesses and recreational users, which is driving more drone traffic in the local airspace,” said Michael Healander, CEO of Airspace Link. “Our solution empowers the city with the data-driven insights, planning tools, and digital infrastructure that will help the COVID-19 test kit drone delivery services and future drone operations, safely scale.”

North Star Scientific Awarded $9.5 million Contract for High Power Link 16 Amplifiers

NSS Link 16 High Power Amplifier

Company to produce 42 units under fixed price contract for MIDS-JTRS Link-16 compatible high power amplifier

KAPOLEI, HAWAII, USA , January 19, 2021 /EINPresswire.com/ — North Star Scientific Corporation (NSS) announced another DoD contract award today, making it two in recent months. After the recent announcement of a $13.2 million award for continued radar development, the company today revealed it was awarded a $9.5 m firm fixed-price contract to produce 42 high power amplifiers (HPA) for the MIDS-JTRS Link 16 data link system. NSS designed and now produces a lighter, smaller and more efficient solid state high power amplifier for the Link 16 system on board the Navy's E-2 Hawkeye aircraft. Under a Small Business Innovative Research (SBIR) contract, a prototype 1260 watt Link-16 High Power Amplifier (HPA) was developed by NSS using LDMOS (laterally-diffused metal-oxide semiconductor) technology. It was designed to be compatible with the MIDS JTRS terminal and did not require modification to E-2 aircraft existing electrical or cooling systems. Subsequent SBIR Phase III contracts led to the Link-16 HPA obtaining EMC certification to be part of the MIDS JTRS configuration on board the E-2 aircraft. In December 2019, 55 Link 16 MIDS JTRS compatible HPAs were procured for the E-2D Hawkeye aircraft. Now in January 2021, DoD procured an additional 42 amplifiers for the E-2D aircraft. "Ultimately, the most important thing about this project is that it was qualified and in production in time to support our Navy customer's Crypto Modernization and Frequency Remapping deadline imposed by NSA " said Rob Swisher, NSS Chief Operating Officer.

Growing network centric warfare needs place ever increasing demands on airborne platforms requiring upgraded avionics communications systems to meet these demands. This is especially true on the E-2D Hawkeye aircraft where limited space requires the replacement or redesign of existing systems in order to reduce size, volume and overall footprint while maintaining capability. The link-16 HPA addresses component availability issues, obsolescence, and reduces volume and weight compared to the legacy JTIDS HPA.

About North Star Scientific: NSS is a privately owned defense electronics business based in the state of Hawaii in Kapolei, Oahu. The company boasts a team of scientists, engineers and technicians with a deep well of expertise and record of success bringing innovative and highly reliable solutions to its DoD customers.

For instance, in 2018, Shenzhen in China converted its entire fleet of 16,000 buses to run entirely on electricity. This was made possible by making bus parking roofed with solar panels to enable charging facilities. Major companies involved in manufacturing electric buses include Kiira Motors, BYD Company, Heilongjiang Qiqiar Longhua New Energy Automobile Co. Ltd., Bauer's Intelligent Transportation, Yutong, and Volvo Buses.

The global transport services market is expected to grow from $5.48 trillion in 2020 to $6.02 trillion in 2021 at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of about 9%. The transport services market growth is mainly due to the companies rearranging their operations and recovering from the COVID-19 impact, which had earlier led to restrictive containment measures involving social distancing, remote working, and the closure of commercial activities that resulted in operational challenges. The transportation market size is expected to reach $8.01 trillion in 2025 at a CAGR of 7%.

The transport services market consists of sales of transportation services and related goods by entities (organizations, sole traders and partnerships) that transport goods and people from one location to another for an amount or fee. The transportation services industry includes establishments that provide services to move people, goods and materials through air, rail, road, water, and pipeline. The market also comprises sales of warehousing and storage services by entities that are involved in the operation of warehousing and storage facilities for merchandise, refrigerated goods, and other materials.

GLOBALX TAKES DELIVERY OF ITS FIRST AIRBUS A320 AT MIAMI INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT

GlobalX Takes Delivery of Its First Airbus A320 at Miami International Airport with Ceremonial Water Cannon Salute

The delivery ceremony brings the new charter airline one step closer to receiving FAA certification

MIAMI, FLORIDA, UNITED STATES, January 18, 2021 /EINPresswire.com/ — Global Crossing Airlines Inc., operating as “GlobalX” (JET: TSX-V; JETMF: OTCQB), today announced it has taken delivery of its first Airbus A320 aircraft, marking the beginning of the new passenger and cargo airline.

“We are thrilled to take delivery of our first A320 aircraft here at our base at MIA. We are building our airline around Airbus with the A320 and 321 in passenger configuration, and later this year with the first of many A321 cargo aircraft. We hope to operate the Airbus A330 aircraft as well. Today is a testament to the outstanding work of the GlobalX team as we continue to certify as a US flag carrier,” said Ed Wegel, Chairman and CEO.

The aircraft arrived at its new base, Miami International Airport, on Sunday afternoon and was welcomed with a ceremonial water cannon salute upon landing. This marks the first delivery of two aircraft scheduled for the first quarter of 2021.

GlobalX’s first A320 aircraft came freshly painted in its signature blue and green livery. The aircraft comfortably accommodates 180 passengers in an all Economy Class configuration, and features a large cargo hold capable of accommodating generous passenger baggage allowances. Upon completion of its FAA certification by late first quarter 2021, the A320 aircraft will immediately begin passenger charter operations throughout the United States, Caribbean, and Latin America.

"We extend our sincere thanks and appreciation to the leadership and team at GlobalX for their trust in Airbus and our A320 aircraft family. It’s an honor to welcome a new A320 and A321 operator in North America and support them throughout their expansion," said Airbus Americas Chairman and CEO Jeff Knittel.

"We look forward to a great relationship with GlobalX into the future,” he added.

GlobalX will provide charter airlift for major airlines, tour operators, professional and collegiate sports teams, casinos, and corporate groups. It will also operate direct to consumer charters under its own Part 380. The airline will operate from two bases at Miami International Airport (MIA) and Atlantic City International Airport (ACY).

Aero Asset Reports Fourth Quarter Preowned Twin-Engine Helicopter Market Improves

But Remains 25% Off Fourth Quarter 2019 Conditions

Twin preowned supply for sale remained stable in the fourth quarter, but still 10 percent higher year over year.”

— Aero Asset Sales Director Emmanuel Dupuy

TORONTO, CANADA, January 18, 2021 /EINPresswire.com/ — Aero Asset reports that while the preowned twin engine helicopter market continued to recover in the fourth quarter of 2020, retail sales volume remained below 2019 levels, impacted largely by the COVID-19-induced economic downturn. The Canadian-based helicopter trading firm just released its fourth quarter 2020 Heli Market Trends report and plans to release a 2020 annual market report before the end of the first quarter 2021.

“Fourth quarter 2020 retail sales volume rose 22 percent compared to third quarter, but remained 25 percent below fourth quarter 2019,” said Aero Asset Sales Director Emmanuel Dupuy. “Twin preowned supply for sale remained stable in the fourth quarter, but still 10 percent higher year over year.”

Absorption rate continued to improve in the fourth quarter but remained 50 percent higher year over year. The deal pipeline bounced back last quarter, surpassing 2019 fourth quarter level.

Weight Class Discord

The light twin engine market was stable in the fourth quarter after a strong rebound the previous quarter. Deterioration ended in the medium asset class market with an uptick in sales volume and a stable level of supply while the heavy market stood at a standstill in the fourth quarter, after a decent third quarter 2020.

VIP Dominates Configuration Activity

The VIP market segment was stable in the fourth quarter, compared to the third, but sales volume remained 15 percent below the 2019 fourth quarter. VIP sales represented 64 percent of all trading activity, with Utility and EMS configurations accounting for the rest.

Liquidity Lineup

The most liquid preowned markets in the fourth quarter of 2020 were the Airbus Helicopters H135 and H145, which tied at first place. Two of 12 markets in the lineup saw no trades during the fourth quarter, both in the heavyweight class. The least liquid market with trading activity was the Bell 412EP, which continued to suffer from lack of demand.

Deal Pipeline Bounces Back

After four consecutive quarters of decline in the number of deals pending at various stages of transactions, the deal pipeline grew during the fourth quarter. It bounced back to surpass fourth quarter 2019 level.
