Spectrum’s "generator & digitizer in one box" gets 8 new high-speed variants

The hybridNETBOX model DN2.825-04 provides four AWG channels that can output waveforms at rates up to 625 MS/s with 16-bit resolution, along with four digitizer channels that can each sample signals at 500 MS/s with 14-bit resolution.

Six slower hybridNETBOX models (up to 125 MS/s speed with BNC-jacks) were launched in September 2020. All 14 variants share the same type of portable housing.

New hybridNETBOX models generate and acquire faster signals

It’s exciting that these new models will extend the frequency range and allow us to address even more applications. Being portable LXI instruments, they’re easy to integrate into almost any system.”

— Oliver Rovini, Technical Director at Spectrum Instrumentation

GROSSHANSDORF, GERMANY, January 27, 2021 /EINPresswire.com/ — Spectrum Instrumentation extends its range of hybridNETBOX products with the addition of eight high-performance models. The hybridNETBOX is an innovative instrumentation platform that combines a multi-channel arbitrary waveform generator (AWG) and a digitizer in a single portable unit. With their unique capability for simultaneous signal generation and acquisition, these powerful tools are perfect for applications involving stimulus-response or closed-loop type testing. In total, 14 different hybridNETBOX-models are available now, with 2+2, 4+4 or 8+8 matched channels and possible speeds from 40 MS/s to 1.25 GS/s.

The new models offer a choice of two or four AWG channels combined with the same number of digitizer channels. The AWG channels can generate almost any waveshape thanks to their use of the latest, high resolution, 16-bit digital to analog converters (DAC). Models are available with output rates of either 625 MS/s or 1.25 GS/s and signal bandwidths up to 400 MHz (600 MHz as an option). At 625 MS/s, the channels can be programmed to output signals with amplitudes up to ±3 V into a 50 Ohm load or ± 6V into high impedance (1 MOhm). The models running at 1.25 GS/s can output signals with an impressive ± 2.5 V into 50 Ohm and ±5 V for 1 MOhm.

For signal acquisition, the digitizer channels feature similarly outstanding performances. Users can select from models that provide 16-bit resolution and sampling rates of 180 or 250 MS/s or 14-bit resolution and sampling rates of 400 or 500 MS/s. Each channel is fully programmable with six adjustable input ranges, from ±200 mV to ±10 V full scale, signal offset and selectable input impedance of 50 Ohm or 1 MOhm. Both the AWG and the digitizer showcase a flexible clocking system that allows the selection of almost any output or sampling rate setting, enabling users to generate or acquire signals at exactly the speed they require.

With their ability to create and acquire electronic signals at the same time, hybridNETBOX units are ideal for a wide variety of automated testing applications. For example, they can reproduce and capture “echo” signals such as those found in Radar, Sonar, Lidar or Ultrasound. The hybridNETBOX is also suited to ATE applications where components and subassemblies need to be tested in a fast and automated way. They can quickly ascertain the functionality and tolerance of DUTs and UUTs (devices or units under test) by exercising them with numerous, easily adjusted, complex signals. This powerful testing process can be deployed in a host of applications like bus testing, MIMO communications, circuit verification, robotics, automotive and scientific experiments.

Oliver Rovini, Technical Director at Spectrum Instrumentation, says: “Since we launched the first hybridNETBOX models in 2020, we’ve received positive feedback from engineers and scientists that require both waveform generation and signal acquisition in manual, automated or remotely controlled applications. So, it’s exciting that these new models will extend the frequency range and allow us to address even more applications. Being portable LXI instruments, they’re easy to integrate into almost any system. Just connect them to a PC or network, via the Gbit Ethernet port, and start generating, acquiring and analysing signals.”

Each hybridNETBOX includes Spectrum’s own control software — SBench 6 — for signal generation, acquisition, display, signal processing, storage and reporting. SBench 6 allows waveforms to be created using standard functions and mathematical equations. Data can be acquired with the digitizer part and then be transferred to the AWG for replay. Data sharing with other programs or devices, such as oscilloscopes, is possible using built-in, import/export functions for transferring data in Binary, ASCII or Wave formats. Fully programmable, the hybridNETBOX comes with drivers for Windows and Linux operating systems, as well as programming examples for C++, LabVIEW, MATLAB, Visual Basic .NET, JAVA, Python and other popular languages.

To help with waveform generation and acquisition, the hybridNETBOX has a large amount of on-board memory (2 x 2 GSamples) and includes a number of operating modes. For instance, it is possible to output signals using Single-Shot, Loop, FIFO Streaming, Gated Replay and Sequence Replay modes. This flexibility permits the user to generate almost any signal, or combination of signals, and develop test routines that can go from simple to complex. Similarly, signals can be acquired using Single-Shot, FIFO Streaming, Multiple Recording, Gated Sampling, and ABA (sample rate switching) modes. These can be combined with a variety of flexible trigger modes (Channel, External, Software, Window, Re-Arm, Logic or Delay) to make sure that important events are never missed.

In addition to the digitizer and AWG channels, the front-panel of each hybridNETBOX includes multiple digital I/O connectors. These make it easy to integrate units into a test system. For example, synchronous marker outputs are available that can be used on the AWG channels to allow precise control of other devices or instruments. Similarly, it is possible to synchronize the unit with other equipment, by applying an external clock and triggers.

With over 30 years of knowledge in designing and building fast AWGs and digitizers, Spectrum offers an industry-leading, 5-year warranty for customer’s peace of mind. This includes free software and firmware updates for each unit’s lifetime. Additionally, customers get support directly from Spectrum's hardware and software engineers. All 14 hybridNETBOX models are available now, with a typical delivery time of 2-3 weeks. Further information can be found on the Spectrum Instrumentation website at www.spectrum-instrumentation.com

— John Mathieson, CEO at DCS

TROY, MI, UNITED STATES, January 26, 2021 /EINPresswire.com/ — Dimensional Control Systems Inc. (DCS) announces a new addition to 3DCS Solution Suite, 3DCS Design Variation Modeler (DVM). 3DCS DVM is immediately available, and along with 3DCS Viewer, 3DCS Mechanical Variation Modeler, and 3DCS Variation Analyst, creates a scalable solution to tolerance analysis and simulation.

3DCS Design Variation Modeler is an easy-to-use tolerance stack-up simulation tool. 3DCS DVM is built around using a single multi-purpose 'move' to assemble products and analyze them in 3 dimensions. Utilizing CAD PMI to quickly build models by extracting GD&T, Moves, and Measures straight from the CAD, DVM makes modeling quick and efficient, helping you get the answers you need.

As part of the 3DCS Solution Suite, 3DCS DVM incorporates into a scalable solution to provide tools to help integrate tolerance analysis and simulation across your organization. With a simple interfaced 3DCS Viewer to allow for model interrogation, to 3DCS DVM for easy stacks and tolerance analysis, to the complete toolset of 3DCS Variation Analyst, the 3DCS Scalable Solution provides each level of your organization the tools they need to improve quality and reduce manufacturing risk.

“We’re excited to introduce DVM into our solution set, to augment and support our flagship software 3DCS VA,” said John Mathieson, DCS CEO. “Our goal is to extend the reach of tolerance analysis to all those engineers and designers who need a faster, easier solution that provides quick and accurate results. These studies then pave the way for the CAE team to pick up and turn basic answers into in-depth dimensional models, providing real insight into the design requirements, creating robust models that ultimately reduce scrap and waste in production."

The 3DCS Solution Suite is the standard for advanced tolerance analysis software across many industries. Used daily by OEM's in aerospace, automotive, electronics, medical device, and energy sectors, 3DCS gives designers and engineers the tools they need to identify potential build issues and iteratively resolve them, all through 3D digital simulation.

Design Variation Modeler provides a new tool for engineers who have been using Excel to calculate tolerance stacks. Excel can give a quick answer, but often leaves out a lot of inputs and influences, while also requiring the user to start over whenever there is a change to values, PMI, or other inputs. DVM gives these same engineers a tool to quickly calculate the stack-ups while incorporating 3-dimensional inputs and making it easy to apply changes and get new answers without the tedious work of redoing the entire stack.

As an integrated tolerance analysis package, 3DCS DVM, along with the other software tools of the 3DCS Solution Suite, is integrated into major CAD platforms to streamline adoption, training, and use. Opening as an additional workbench in CATIA V5, 3DEXPERIENCE, NX, CREO, and SOLIDWORKS, the integration is seamless, leaving many users unaware that they are using a 3rd party tool. This integration makes it easy to incorporate 3DCS software into existing processes, and quickly see the benefits in reduced manufacturing costs and scrap.

“Design Variation Modeler provides a new tool for engineers who have been using Excel to calculate tolerance stacks. Excel can give a quick answer, but often leaves out a lot of inputs and influences, while also requiring the user to start over whenever there is a change to values, PMI, or other inputs,” said Dave Johnson, 3DCS Product Manager at DCS. “DVM gives these same engineers a tool to quickly calculate the stack-ups while incorporating 3-dimensional inputs, and making it easy to apply changes and get new answers without the tedious work of redoing the entire stack.”

Peter Zieve Gives Tips on How to Choose the Right College

Peter Zieve is well known for being a very successful engineer and business owner.

SEATTLE, WASHINGTON, USA, January 26, 2021 /EINPresswire.com/ — Peter Zieve is well known for being a very successful engineer and business owner. More than 30 years ago, he founded Electroimpact, a company that has made many great strides through the use of technology that Zieve was able to develop. Prior to forming his company, Peter Zieve had a very successful educational background that included going to the University of Washington, where he received his Ph.D. Today, he continues to understand how important education is. One part of this is going to college. There are a variety of tips that should be followed when you are picking a college for higher education.

Peter Zieve Says to Consider Ranking and Prestige of a School
One tip that Peter Zieve has provided is to consider the ranking and prestige of the school. Ideally, you should aim for going to a top-10 college or university or at least one that is highly regarded in your area. When you go to one of these schools, you will graduate with a prestigious degree that will be respected by employers and graduate programs. Additionally, you are bound to make life-long connections that will help you build a strong personal and professional network that will be advantageous throughout your career.

Considering Program Reputation is Important to Peter Zieve
While the overall reputation of a college is important, you also need to factor in the reputation of the program that you are interested in. Those that are interested in an engineering program should look for schools that have a good reputation in the specific degree path that you want to pursue. Some pieces of data that should also be considered are the graduation rate, the job placement rate and the median income upon graduation and 5 to 10 years post graduation. These factors helped Peter Zieve choose a strong program, which has helped him build a successful career.

Peter Zieve Suggests Finding a School With Appropriate Extracurricular Activities
Beyond spending time in the classroom, you should look for ways to get involved in your school. A college student's experience should include participating in a variety of different activities, clubs and programs that can help them learn more and make more connections. Zieve suggests gathering information about each school's opportunities and then comparing them to each other. This could help you then pick a school that will offer all that you want. Peter Zieve also believes in the importance of giving back so finding a school that offers charitable opportunities is also a great option.

Ultimately, going to college is very important and can open up a lot of job opportunities for you. According to Peter Zieve, picking the right college is a very important decision that needs to be taken seriously. He is always willing to have a conversation with a student or parent or refer them to resources that can help to guide their decision. What Now for Renewables and Sustainable Aviation Fuels?

NWABF Renewable Sustainable Aviation Fuel

Learn what is ahead for renewable and sustainable aviation fuel

SCOTTSDALE, ARIZONA, USA, January 26, 2021 /EINPresswire.com/ — A new US political administration is in place, and with it comes a return to fighting the war against climate change. The new administration is committed to the challenges ahead to increase our use of renewable resources for new sources of energy. That includes sustainable aviation fuel, (“SAF”).

One of the first moves made by new US President Biden was for the US to re-join the Paris climate accord, created in 2015. The accord commits countries to create guidelines and timetables on reducing greenhouse gas emissions like carbon dioxide, which gets released from burning fossil fuels.

Investment Interest in Renewables

As a company working in the sustainable aviation fuel industry, we are excited about the future of renewables, and SAF in particular. We feel that this area may be ready for industry explosion soon. We are in a great position to become a leader in the industry, to attract investors for the long term.

Many sustainability investors simply do not want to own companies that produce oil, coal, and other hydrocarbons. These companies are producing sources of pollution and are considered contributors to climate change. In comparison, many new companies in renewable fuels are acknowledging the steps to move ahead to meet government mandates on clear air.

But where do these developments leave the big oil & gas companies?

What This Means for the O & G Companies

As new SAF producers forge ahead with renewable investments, big oil companies today seem to be in the same position that the power utilities were about 20 years ago. They are behind, still producing products from fossil fuels.

This means that the big Oil & Gas companies are putting together renewable energy strategies, and scrambling to catch up with the changing tides in energy production. Some O & G companies are busy converting part or all of their processes and plants to be able to produce sustainable fuels. Other O&G companies are still lagging. Some have been announced.

But making these moves may end up costing them billions of dollars to convert plants or build new plants to completely make these moves to renewable production. And they would have to work with Renewable Fuels Developers who are presently competitors and be held to government mandates on production. Is this what today’s investor really wants? We think the future of sustainable aviation fuel represents a better route ahead.

Investors to Move to Renewables

Investors know that change is coming and that it is getting nearer to the day when our planet can spin on renewable resources, and have a prosperous clean-energy future. Major investors are already making new sustainable aviation fuel investments and moving away from investing in fossil-fuel companies.

Another view is given by the International Energy Agency, which writes in its new report on renewables:
“Renewables will overtake coal to become the largest source of electricity generation worldwide in 2025. By that time, they are expected to supply one-third of the world’s electricity. Hydropower will continue to supply almost half of the global renewable electricity. It is by far the largest source of renewable electricity worldwide, followed by wind and solar PV.”

This is what drives our team at Northwest Advanced Bio-Fuels, LLC. We are in serious, final stage, active investment discussions with top U.S. investment firms and industry companies in reviewing the SAF investment opportunity. The company has already received investment term sheets for the construction CAPEX of the Project, from multiple qualified investors eager to participate in the Project’s funding needs. As a result, final development funding is expected to close soon.

All of this investment is to raise hundreds of millions of dollars for the NWABF SAF Project, which will produce and supply 60+ million gallons of SAF annually for Delta Air Lines. And that’s just the start. There is more in the pipeline.

At Northwest Advanced Bio-Fuels, LLC, we believe that future travel from aviation can and will be powered exclusively by sustainable aviation fuel once enough of this fuel becomes available. This is why we stay excited, remain committed and are encouraged by the new moves toward a cleaner, more energy-efficient future.

ThanksUSA Launches Major Expansion of Programs Assisting Military Families

Pathways for Patriots Programs Strengthen Resources for Education and Career Enhancement

Work is scarce, money is scarce, stress is high, and I don’t want to give up on my goals.”

— ThanksUSA Scholar Alison

MCLEAN, VA, USA, January 26, 2021 /EINPresswire.com/ — ThanksUSA today announced a major expansion of its programs to assist military families through the Pathways for Patriots program, spurred by the coronavirus pandemic and fueled by the ongoing needs of military families. The national non-profit organization will supplement its academic scholarships with significantly enhanced programs that connect, enrich and inspire military-connected individuals.

“Our military families are already burdened by lengthy deployments, constant moves, financial hardships, high spousal unemployment and more. The pandemic is compounding those challenges,” said Jon Rosa, ThanksUSA President and CEO. “It is critical that we help alleviate those additional burdens for those who sacrifice so much for our country.”

According to a recent survey of ThanksUSA scholarship recipients, the coronavirus crisis – against which the military is also deployed – has increased their financial and mental health burdens and significantly disrupted their education and career enhancement opportunities. The new programs, aimed at addressing these issues, will launch this week with a two-part peer discussion "Pandemic Resilience: From Surviving to Thriving," facilitated by ThanksUSA co-founders Kelsi and Rachel Okun.

The survey uncovered stories of anguish, including that of military spouse Alison who is pursuing a career as a dental hygienist. She was jobless for almost two months because of the pandemic and is now juggling only part-time hours as well as costly internet access with her children, all forced to learn online. Alison wrote, “Work is scarce, money is scarce, stress is high, and I don’t want to give up on my goals.”

Leticia’s husband contracted COVID-19 on duty; she became sick too. Still not fully recovered, studying and with small children at home, her load has only become weightier: “I am a teacher, mom, best friend, wife, maid, chef, nurse, etc. Of course, this pandemic and having to deal with the constant changes has affected my mental state,” said Leticia.

“More than half of our respondents cited economic and emotional stress,” explained Rosa. “On the education front, 58 percent reported that their internship, work-study, or other job opportunities were halted or curtailed, while 45 percent noted a lack of access to instructors or mentors for career development advice. Their future career goals are in jeopardy.”

The expanded Pathways for Patriots program is intended to right the course. Among its elements are:

– Pathfinder sessions in which small numbers of participants will hear from professionals about their career field, obstacles and lessons learned;
– Around the Table peer discussions to address financial, emotional, educational and career issues with significant focus on solutions;
– Ask the Expert counseling offered by experts with questions submitted through social media;
– Seminar series focused on career development; and
– Enrichment/job recruitment fairs.

The monthly Pathfinder mentoring sessions will feature entrepreneurship advice from Elizabeth Frazee, co-founder of TwinLogic Strategies; career-development coaching from Alex Ehrlich, a longtime leader in the financial services industry; business etiquette from Jessica Marventano, co-author of The Marvelous Millennial's Manual to Modern Manners; and more.

“Americans everywhere are hurting, our military families among them. Our goal is to offer a helping hand to the children and spouses of our service members taking them from the classroom to the boardroom, vocational training to the manufacturing arena,” said Rosa. “Pathways for Patriots does that and will inspire confidence in a brighter future for them – personally and professionally.”
