The National Space Society Mourns the Passing of Bernard Kutter

Bernard Kutter of United Launch Alliance died unexpectedly on August 12, 2020.

Manager of Advanced Programs for United Launch Alliance was a Force in NewSpace

I want to help humans use space to better our lives and enhance our understanding of the universe.”

— Bernard Kutter of United Launch Alliance

WASHINGTON, D.C., U.S., August 13, 2020 / — Bernard Kutter, the Manager of Advanced Programs at United Launch Alliance, passed away unexpectedly on August 12 from a reported heart attack.

Kutter was considered a brilliant engineer and was pivotal in the design and oversight of ULA’s new Vulcan rocket, the successor to the venerable Atlas V and Delta Heavy IV rockets and ULA’s first ground-up rocket design. Kutter was also an architect of ULA’s “Cislunar 1000” plan, which aims to put 1000 people into space by 2045. He additionally hosted the popular cislunar workshops sponsored by ULA for members of the space community.

“Bernard was a gifted aerospace engineer and a strong advocate for a thriving human presence in space,” said Hoyt Davidson, the founder of Near Earth LLC and a board member of the National Space Society (NSS). “His untimely death robs us of decades of important contributions.”

Greg Autry, the NSS’s Vice President of Space development, echoed the sentiment: “Bernard represented everything I love about the space industry. He was brilliant, engaging, kind, and supportive of everyone. He was far too young to go and his loss will be deeply felt.”

Bruce Pittman, the Senior Operating Officer of the NSS, said, “Bernard was not only a great engineer but also a remarkable human being—warm, caring, helpful and hopeful. He was a good friend and he will be dearly missed. Our condolences go out to his family and his friends and colleagues at ULA.”

Other friends and co-workers took to social media to lament the loss of Kutter within hours, characterizing him as an “unsung hero” of NewSpace, a “great mentor,” a “kind and ethical man,” and a “visionary.” His contributions to the spaceflight community were impressive, and the Vulcan rocket will be an integral part of his legacy. As Kutter said on his Linkedin profile, “I want to help humans use space to better our lives and enhance our understanding of the universe.”

The National Space Society was founded in 1987 via a merger of the National Space Institute, founded by NASA’s Wernher von Braun, and the L5 Society, based on the work of space settlement pioneer Gerard K. O’Neill. The NSS is the preeminent citizen's voice on space exploration and development. Cybersecurity To Be Required for All Federal Government Contracts

Turnkey CMMC Program

Turnkey Cybersecurity and Privacy Programs

The GSA is following the DoD and will require cybersecurity for ALL GSA contracts. All other federal agencies and state governments are expected to do the same.

The DoD and feds know that building a compliant cybersecurity program costs money. We understand this will be an allowable expense in contracts.”

— Ray Hutchins

DENVER, CO, UNITED STATES, August 12, 2020 / — Fedscoop reports that the General Services Administration (GSA) is moving to incorporate recent Department of Defense (DoD) cybersecurity requirements into the GSA's $50 billion Stars III contract. This is a wake-up call for all small businesses who do business with the federal government.

In response to relentless attacks by China and others, the Department of Defense (DoD) is now requiring that all companies who have DoD contracts to prepare to meet Cybersecurity Maturity Model Certification (CMMC) requirements. But in a surprise move, the GSA just included the CMMC standard into its own $50 billion STARS III contract that was posted in July. The GSA says it “reserves the right” to require CMMC certifications for small businesses awarded spots on the government-wide IT contracting vehicle. It should be noted that the GSA targeted this message at small businesses.

"This is no surprise," says Ray Hutchins, Managing Partner of Turnkey Cybersecurity and Privacy Solutions LLC (TCPS), a company that builds CMMC compliant cybersecurity programs. "If our country intends to maintain its technological lead in the world, then we must secure our IT infrastructure from attack. The feds are only doing what they must do. We need to do our part and get with the program ASAP."

This is the clearest signal yet that the DoD and the federal government intend to force all government contractors and subcontractors to build compliant cybersecurity programs that will protect taxpayer data and dollars. No cybersecurity certification–no contract.

Mitch Tanenbaum, TCPS partner says, "The next step is for ALL other federal agencies and then state governments to follow suit – there is no reason for them to re-invent the wheel. So, the time has come for companies to get REALLY serious about building their cybersecurity programs – because it's not easy and it takes time. We know this because we are in the middle of the very same process with multiple companies and even our own company since we intend to be fully CMMC certified as well."

"There is some good news," Hutchins says. "The DoD and feds know that building a compliant cybersecurity program costs money. We understand this will be an allowable expense in contracts."

Turnkey Cybersecurity and Privacy Solutions LLC (TCPS) is the leader in TURNKEY cybersecurity programs for smaller companies who have to comply with DoD CMMC, GSA and other requirements.  TCPS is the only company to offer small to medium-sized companies this cost-effective option. TCPS has a full range of pre-engineered, turnkey, comprehensive cybersecurity and privacy programs for smaller companies. Their programs make cybersecurity easier, less brain-damaging, and less expensive and the programs include full cybersecurity support – because it cannot be done otherwise.

Even if a small company does not intend to do business with DoD or the federal government, they are still responsible for sensitive personal and business data which must be protected.

Buying a TCPS program provides the following immediate benefits:

1. Increased competitiveness for federal and state contracts and other business
2. Access to the most cost-effective turnkey cybersecurity and privacy solution for small to medium-sized companies
3. Access to the following TCPS licensed program components, including:
-Continuously updated program governance tools, content, processes, and procedures
-Continuously updated training content
-Reactive and pro-active technical and program support delivered via a secured, shared Google Drive portal
-Vetted third-party cybersecurity tools
4. Reduction of cybersecurity and privacy risks, including:
-IT infrastructure and data risks
-Regulatory compliance risks
-Insurance exposure risks
-Company valuation risks (see video below)
-Cybersecurity and privacy financial risks
5. Faster program deployment and protection of assets
6. Reduced security complexity
7. Increased business valuation (see video below)
8. Increased ability to sleep at night

SatRevolution Announces Shared Earth-observation Mission with Multispectral Capability to launch in December 2021

SatRevolution, today announced a shared Earth-observation mission with multispectral capability to launch in December 2021.

WROCLAW, DOLNOśLąSKIE, POLAND, August 12, 2020 / — SatRevolution (, a forerunner of the space industry in Poland, today announced a shared Earth-observation mission with multispectral capability to launch in December 2021.

The December 2021 mission, called SOWA, will follow in the footsteps of SatRevolution’s previous missions SW1FT and STORK, which will launch in December 2020 and June 2021 respectively. All missions are equipped with SatRevolution’s optical payload Vision 300, capable of capturing imagery of up to 5 m resolution, however SOWA mission will come with multispectral capability to provide additional remote sensing services.

All current SatRevolution missions are milestones on the way to the launch of the constellation. “We are progressing quickly with our Earth-observation technology,” said Grzegorz Zwolinski, Co-founder and CEO of SatRevolution. “We are happy that we can provide our customers with imagery and data even before the constellation takes to orbit in 2023”.
SatRevolution SOWA is a development based on the tried and tested NanoBus platform, but now in 6U format with dual optical payload and on-board image processing. Extended bus allows more external payload capacity and additional optical capability. Besides RGB imagery, SatRevolution provides more options with a second, near-infrared (NIR) sensing instrument. A combination of payloads and spectral bands allows users on the ground to enjoy valuable data, such as NDVI and other indexes, aimed at agricultural, insurance and utilities sectors.

SOWA is the third in series of service provision missions, where in-orbit verification and demonstration for external payloads comes hand in hand with actual data and imaging service back to users on the ground. The mission is scheduled to launch to Sun Synchronous Orbit to suit a variety of orbital needs and on-the-ground use cases. Once the satellite is commissioned, SatRevolution will start imagery data and services provision to its customers.

The innovative shared nature of the mission allows multiple customers to utilize a single platform. COVID-19 Patients Require Respiratory Devices For Ease Of Breathing, Driving The Airway Management Devices Market Size

Airway Management Devices Market Report 2020-30: Covid 19 Implications And Growth

Airway Management Devices Market Global Report 2020-30: Covid 19 Implications And Growth

The Business Research Company’s Global Airway Management Devices Market Research Report 2020-30: Covid 19 Implications And Growth

LONDON, GREATER LONDON, UK, August 12, 2020 / — The global airway management devices market size is expected to grow from $1.40 billion in 2019 to $2.15 billion in 2020 at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 53.35%. The growth is mainly due to the COVID-19 outbreak that required the use of airway management devices to support COVID-19 patients with ease in breathing. The global airway management devices market size is expected to stabilize and reach $2.65 billion in 2023 at a CAGR of 7.33%.
Airway management devices market research suggests that the increasing prevalence of respiratory diseases is expected to propel the demand for airway management devices over the forecast period.

Airway management devices are used for difficult emergency airway management during medical procedures. According to a 2019 publication by United for Lung Health – a forum of international respiratory societies – chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) is the third leading cause of death with an average of 384 million people suffering from COPD each year. Lung cancer was the deadliest cancer with 1.76 million deaths annually across the world. Moreover, 10 million people develop tuberculosis and 334 million people suffer from asthma every year. This scenario drives the growth of the global airway management devices market.

The complications and failures associated with airway management devices limit the growth of the airway management devices market. According to BioMed Research International Journal, the concerns or complications related to supraglottic and other airway management devices include compression of vascular structures, regurgitation, aspiration of gastric contents, trauma, and nerve injury. Therefore, higher incidences of complications associated with airway management devices question the use of these devices in the first place and will likely harm the market growth.

The launch of innovative airway management devices is shaping the airway management devices market. For instance, in January 2019, Verathon, a medical device manufacturer specialized in airway management devices, announced the launch of GlideScope Core, the most flexible and comprehensive airway visualization system available for bronchoscopy, video laryngoscopy, and multimodal airway procedures. GlideScope Core was the first airway visualization system with live and simultaneous picture-in-picture imaging, which offers healthcare professionals the power to see and do more. Similarly, in June 2020, Docsinnovent Ltd launched an advanced version of V-gel, which is a supraglottic airway device for cats and rabbits.

The market for the airway management devices consists of sales of airway management devices and related services. Airway management devices are used to prevent and relieve airway obstruction to ensure proper exchange of air between the patient’s lungs and atmosphere.

The airway management devices market is segmented by type into infraglottic airway management devices, supraglottic airway management devices, resuscitators, laryngoscopes, and other devices. By end use, the market is segmented into hospital and homecare. By application, it is segmented into anesthesia, emergency medicine, and others.

75th Commemoration of the End of WWII

75th WWII Commemoration

Ready to participate in 3 Legacy of Peace Aerial Parades

HONOLULU, HI, UNITED STATES, August 11, 2020 / — Fourteen WWII Warbirds, transported from San Diego aboard a Navy amphibious assault ship, arrived at Pearl Harbor, HI on Monday. Carefully being offloaded, they will be prepared for their participation in the events surrounding the 75th Commemoration of the End of WWII.

The theme of the Commemoration in Hawaii is “Salute Their Service, Honor Their Hope” in recognition of the veterans and civilians who participated in WWII and contributed to the actions that led to the end of the war. This is the last opportunity for us to honor and recognize our WWII veterans in a commemoration which many will attend. While most of the events planned for the commemoration were modified, cancelled or moved to virtual viewing, the flyovers may be enjoyed by both residents and the veterans in attendance, many of whom were present as some of these aircraft flew over the deck of the Missouri on September 2, 1945 as the Instrument of Surrender that ended WWII was signed. Others around the country and the world will be able to view this tribute virtually. The vintage aircraft will be flown in three Legacy of Peace Aerial Parades: Around Oahu on August 29, Connecting the Military Bases on August 30 and Fly Over the Battleship Missouri Memorial, Pearl Harbor to Waikiki as part of the 75th WWII Commemoration Ceremony on September 2. Flight paths will be available on the official website soon.

Enormous efforts by multiple civilian and military organizations were needed to coordinate, manage and transport the Warbirds to Hawaii. The DoD, the U.S. Navy along with the owners, pilots and crews of the aircraft have made this extraordinary project possible through Opportune Lift — transported on a ship that had been scheduled to be in Hawaii at this time. The Commemoration at large is supported in part by the generosity of sponsors including the national presenting sponsor, Linda Hope who represents the Bob Hope Legacy as part of the Bob & Dolores Hope Foundation.

“For the WWII veterans who will be with us in person or virtually, the flight of these Warbirds in Hawaii over the very deck of the USS Missouri, will rekindle the excitement they all felt knowing that war was coming to an end. It is a tribute that will live on in their hearts and in the hearts of all who see it,” stated Elissa Lines, Executive Director of Pearl Harbor Aviation Museum.

The 75th Commemoration events, scheduled from August 29 through September 2, will be attended by a limited number of guests. Strict measures will be implemented to ensure the safety of WWII veterans and their guardians; Warbird crews; Hawaii, U.S. and Foreign dignitaries; media; and the community.

Images and more information about the aircraft, owners and pilots will be available on the commemoration website and in a special section of DVIDS.

The Warbirds participating in the 3 Legacy of Peace Aerial Parades:

A North American SNJ/AT- 6 Texan which was the most widely used advanced training aircraft in the allied inventory and will be piloted by John Johnson. Four AT-6 Texans will be piloted by Kim Middleton, Jason Karlin, Joe Fisher, and Bruce Graham.

A North American B-25 Mitchell owned by David Prescott, represents a medium bomber used by almost all allied air forces. B-25 bombers were used in the famous Doolittle Raid on Tokyo.

Michael Polley will pilot a Grumman FM2 Wildcat that was a carrier and land-based fighter flown by the U.S. Navy and Marines in battles such as Guadalcanal, the Coral Sea, Midway and the Solomons.
