Small Plane Crashes in UK
The accident happened around 16:00 local time on Sunday and was captured on video, which has since surfaced on social media platforms.
Footage reveals dense black smoke billowing into the atmosphere from a field close to the runway. Images believed to have been taken just after the incident depict a massive explosion, with a fiery blast shooting into the sky.
Details about the exact number of individuals aboard the light passenger aircraft are still unknown. Both Southend Airport and Essex police verified the event, though no information regarding injuries or fatalities has been confirmed.
"We were alerted shortly before 4pm to reports of a collision involving one 12-meter plane. We are working with all emergency services at the scene now and that work will be ongoing for several hours," police stated.
Emergency crews responded quickly, including four ambulances, four vehicles from a hazardous area response team, and an air ambulance, as reported by the local healthcare authorities.
Authorities also evacuated the nearby Rochford Hundred Golf Club and Westcliff Rugby Club as a safety measure due to their closeness to the crash location.
